Dear Community,

Work on the new forum is coming along nicely. Here's a sneak peek at the basic structure:

Level 1: Main forums have sub forums

Level 2: Sub forums have topics

Level 3: Topics contain entries

Level 4: Entries are the smallest unit (like answers)

Keep up to date on what's new!

Kind regards,

Dear Community,

among other things we are currently developing a concept which will give our Community Users more say in the prioritization of new features.
In fact we will be asking for their own ideas. We are trying to make it so that in the future people can have more influence on the community.
Exact dates and dates are still unknown.

New Forums!
Thursday, 10. March 2011

Dear Community,

We are going to appoint hosts for the new forums, who will have administrative rights in our community. Here's how it works:

The scope of the rights will be attached to the tree structure in the forum meaning that rights can be assigned for the entire forum (all areas) or selected areas of a forum (for example MAGIX products only). If you have selected rights, for example, entries in the Q&A section can only be moved in this area.

Presenters automatically have write permission in software updates.

If two presenters want to edit the same entry at the same time, the second presenter will receive a message saying "This entry is currently being edited - you will be able to make changes in 15 minutes" and a 15-minute lock-out period will come into effect. If changes are not saved within this time, the entry (unedited) is made available for further editing.

Be sure to keep posted on what's to come!

Kind regards,

the editorial team

Improved image viewing and video player
Tuesday, 7. April 2009

Dear magix.info visitor and member,

Spring hasn't just arrived outside, but its effects are also visible in our community.

For one thing, the "Questions & Answers" area and "Show & Discuss" have been upgraded with a convenient zoom function. If a question or answer contains an image (e.g. photo or screenshot), then a click on it is enough to open an enlarged display. This image enlargement also works in the detailed view for photos under "Show & Discuss".

We've also optimized our video player. The new export functions that may be accessed via the new info button (below left in player) make it easier to forward or link a video or embed it in other websites.

Have fun trying it out!

Kind regards,
The magix.info team

Insights and outlooks
Tuesday, 24. March 2009

Dear Community visitors and members,

Since our last blog entry, a lot has happened, and now it's the right time to inform you again about news and upcoming projects.

For starters, we're pleased with the constantly growing number of members and the lively participation, since this makes the community even more exciting. We would also like to congratulate our first two Platinum status members (awarded at 2,000 points). We're especially thankful for the passionate and faithful engagement of these two members, "geschi“ (over 3,250 points) and "ThaiArne“ (over 2,250 points).

Since magix.info lives from its visitors and members, we would like to continue to include you all in the further development and improvement of the community. The current questionnaire box on the main page is intended to give you the option to vote on different issues. You will be able to express your opinion concerning other issues via this function in the future as well.

At the moment, we are working on designing the start page to be more useful and entertaining, and we are going to be expanding the entire community to include French, Spanish, and Italian languages. We are also preparing a documentary film competition that is set to take place soon here at magix.info. We'll keep you informed about all of these events, of course.

But that still isn't everything! Many areas will be revised and expanded in the coming months; for example, you can look forward to a new video player, an improved messaging system, and other optimizations. As soon as these innovations are available, we'll inform you via the blog.

Kind regards
The magix.info team

New features
Thursday, 4. December 2008

Dear community members,

Many of you have probably already noticed, that several new functions have been available on magix.info for around two weeks now that enhance the overall usability.

At this point, we would like to officially introduce these changes and explain them.

magix.info goes international!

Until recently, you were only able to view community content according to the site language you selected. This feature has been altered slightly to make more content available for your enjoyment.

In the areas “Questions & Answers“, “Show & Discuss“, “Knowledge & Workshops“, and “Groups“, you can now use a simple menu to select which content should be displayed according to the different languages.

This functions independently, so you can ask English-speaking users questions but view media from any available language.

Simply activate the country for which you would like to browse media and then click “Display selection“.

The best part:
The community has certainly realised by now which languages they prefer in which areas, and users only need to select a language once – this selection will remain active the next time they log in.

I'm an expert!

Magix.info has allowed you to distinguish yourself as an “Expert“ for some time already. This makes it possible for other users to recognise that you are available as a pro for valuable advice in certain areas.

Until now, experts could only select from the existing categories in the “Questions & Answers“ area.

In order to enable more specific selection, you can now add more detailed information to the individual categories!

Simply click on “My overview“ in the upper area of the page and press the “Edit profile“ button in the upper right (below the blue navigation bar).

In the “Special skills“ area, describe your specialties in more detail with the text box.

This extra information will be displayed on your profile page.

Visit me at my website!“

Many of the community's users don't only use the community page, but also have an online album, a website, or a blog with MAGIX.

So why not indicate this on your profile page?

Open “Edit profile“ to find “About me“ directly next to the “Special skills“ tab.

You can mention this other information here for it to be displayed on magix.info.

Of course, we've also improved numerous other functions, and there shouldn't be any more problems with the media players on magix.info.

Kind regards

The magix.info team

Workshop-Contest
Wednesday, 8. October 2008

Dear magix.info fans,

We have something in common – our passion for multimedia and our dedication to photography, movies, and music.

Everyone is a specialist in something. Some of us turn snapshots into elegant images, some of us write fantastic songs. Maybe others still aren't quite exactly experts and are just having fun with their hobby, but would like to develop their skills further.

We would like to offer magix.info as a platform for the passion we have in common and for the collective knowledge of our members. For this reason, we are holding a workshop contest.

From 15.09.2008 to 01.11.2008, everyone is challenged to develop a workshop for his or her own special topic or hobby.

Every workshop that is published during this time will be entered automatically into the contest. *

It doesn't matter whether you write about photos, movies, or music or whether you create a video or write it out in a PDF.

The winners can expect prizes valued at 1,000 euros and the distinguished title of "Tutor" on magix.info.

Among others, you may choose from:

- Samplitude 10

- XARA Xtreme Pro 4

...and other prizes

After the contest, the magix.info team will select the top ten of the published workshops.

The three winners out of these ten will be elected by the magix.info communitie and be announced in the next newsletter with a short introduction.

It's worth taking part. Have fun and good luck!

* Terms and conditions of participation

  • 1.
Participants must be 18 or older
  • 2.

Small, but powerfull...
Wednesday, 8. October 2008

that's a good way to describe the update we published on October 1st!

Besides remedying a number of errors, it also contains several new functions and adjustments, including several user requests!

Media and workshops on the profile page!

Finally, members are able to view a clearly laid-out overview of all of the media that a magix.info member has published directly on their profile page. Just open a member's profile page. Besides the already familiar profile information and the guestbook, there are now two more tabs:

The "Media" tab (pictured) let's view all of the member's media, and if you are interested in a particular form of medium, i.e. photos, videos, or songs, then that's no problem: Just select the formats that you are interested in from the menu.

The "Workshops" area also displays the workshops that a member has published on magix.info.

Where are my groups?

By the third or fourth group you join, maybe it won't be so easy to remember exactly what those groups are actually called. Now we have a solution to that problem, too: The "My community" area in your overview (just click "My overview“ via the quick access buttons) provides all of the groups that you are a member of listed neatly for you.

New sorting!

Besides the detailed member search that has been available for quite some time, you can now list members according to some new criteria.

Sort members according to "Most points" to find the most active members, show members with the most workshops, or use the new function for viewing the media on a member's page and sort according to "Most media".

Groups can also be sorted according to "Activity" now, so if you want to find the groups that are the most active in terms of discussion and presentations, then this option makes it easy!

More media!

Many members have been annoyed by the fact that only nine media items could be displayed per page.

Starting immediately, the option is available for you to specify how many pieces are shown at a time.

Just scroll to the bottom of the page of any media list, and below the page selector (just like for questions) you will see the “View“ option. Use this option to specify how many items you would like to display at once on a single page.

Browsing made easy!

A small but powerful new addition to top things off: If you enjoy browsing in the media area and have always wanted to be able to preview media by opening a new window or browser tab, well, that's now a reality. From the overview page, just open as many items in new browser tabs/windows as you like. This way you won't need to click the 'back' button in your browser a million times to get back to the original page anymore.

Of course, that's not all. There are still numerous smaller changes, especially in the “Profile“, “Groups“, and “Show & Discuss“ areas, but we just don't have enough space here to list each and every one of them...

Have fun at magix.info!

The "Question & Answers"-Game: New rules
Friday, 26. September 2008

Dear magix.info friends & members,

Lately we've made quite a few changes to the site, and now we're happy to be able to offer the new functions "Complete question" and "Quick access".

Add to question or complete questions

We have observed that many users orientate themselves on the functionality of a normal forum when they use the "Questions & Answers" area.  However, we would like to offer the "Questions & Answers" area as a platform where users can immediately find an answer to their question, rather than discuss the topics at hand. For discussions on magix.info, there is still the "Groups" feature, and anyone can form a group to discuss any multimedia-themed topic with peers. The "Show & Discuss" area is intended for discussion about a particular photo, video, or song. "Questions & Answers" is intended above all to provide quick and clearly laid-out knowledge. For this reason, we've decided to make a couple small changes which should make this function clearer and simpler.

You can still edit your questions, e.g. to clarify a sentence or correct mistakes, but now you can add to or complete the information. This should avoid important information being removed as questions are answered. The phenomenon familiar to us from forums, i.e. whereby a poster answers his or her own question, has been consciously avoided, since this can cause relevant information to become lost over the course of multiple entries and make the original question difficult to trace.

Direct access to all areas - from any page!

Quick access provides convenient access to the most important areas and your personal content on magix.info. So, for example, you can jump directly to your guestbook or switch to your inbox. This function is located in the upper-right menu bar on the page.

We designed the quick access function so that features can be added to it in the future; we have couple of ideas already, but we invite you to make your own relevant suggestions. If you have any ideas of your own, then write something in the group "magix.info - further development". We're looking forward to hearing from you.

Have fun at magix.info!

Alex

Good news for chatterboxes!
Wednesday, 6. August 2008

Dear magix.info fans!

Starting now, you can communicate with each other directly without having to take detours like guestbooks or the "Questions & Answers" channel, because private messaging is finally available!

So if you want to say thanks for an especially helpful answer or make a couple of suggestions, private messaging is now the best means of doing soPersonal comments or others things which don't necessarily need to be published for everyone else to read can be sent directly to the recipientThere are thousands of reasons for you to chat with each other - you'll probably even come up with a few more on your own... ;)

To make private messaging as comfortable as possible, we have implemented a context menu on every profile picture. When the mouse is moved over a profile picture, a small arrow appears in the lower right corner. If you click it, then a menu opens which provides you with different actions you can use to contact the member:

  • View profile
Direct access to the member's profile
  • Send private message
Send a private message to the member
  • Add/Remove contact
These actions appear depending on the relationship with the member.

    The contact list is practical
if you have frequent exchanges with a particular member. Thís makes these contacts easily available to you so that you don't need to search for your friends!
  • Report
Report the member to the editors in case the community rules are being violated
    .

Another new feature is the RSS feed generator for the different areas like "Questions & Answers", "Show & Discuss" and "Knowledge & Workshops". RSS feeds help you keep up to date about the newest posts and most current items as they appear in the different areas.

Just subscribe to an RSS feed with a special reader or with the corresponding functions available in Mozilla Firefox or Thunderbird. Extensive information about RSS is available at Wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS

We hope you enjoy these new functions, and don't forget to have fun at magix.info!

Kind regards,
Kate (magix.info - editorial department)
